OUR NAME

The "Lelú" name (pronounced lay-luh and meaning "body of water" or "lake") comes from the Kosraean ancestral home of the kings and queens who ruled this island paradise for over a thousand years.

The Lelú area of Kosrae is an important archeological site, noted for ancient ruins that have been explored and recorded for their historical and cultural indications of Kosrae's early peoples. Today, Lelú is one of Kosrae's main municipalities, home to many islanders, with a small commercial district and one of the island's largest churches.
